Current Book Pile

Precious Husband and I have an on going joke about movies.  Unlike Precious Husband, I am not one to watch a lot of movies and often he will ask if I have seen a certain movie.  When I say no, he comes back with, "But it's a classic!"

For me, I would rather curl up with a book and a cup of coffee.  I love the sound in my head of words strung together making good word pictures.  I love to use my pink highlighter and highlight the good stuff.  I love the feel of the paper and the weight of a hardback book.  A Kendal would never be on this mémère's wish list.

This week I have started two books.  Hind's Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard is truly a classic in the Christian genre but this is my first time to read it.  The first page shares the premise of the book, The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like Hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine High Places.  Habakkuk 3:19  I have just started the book but I sure am enjoying the read.

My second book is Coffee, Cookies and Inspiration by Mary Pielenz Hampton.  The flyleaf says, "Mary Pielenz Hampton combines piquant coffees and mouth watering unique cookie recipes with insights into the benefits of spending time with God.  Filled with beautiful, full-color photographs, this imaginative book truly is a celebration of God's presence."

Enjoying my two books.  How about you?

Dear Dorothy...
I love to read. I read Hinds Feet on High Places when I was around 16years old. Our pastor had the entire church read it if they chose too...and it's a great book :) :) :) You are right about it being a classic in Christian literature.
Right now I'm reading the "Surrender to Destiny" series by Christian fiction author MaryLu Tyndall. It's great...I'm on book one called "Surrender the Heart". It takes place right at the onset of the War of 1812 with Great Britain...and it involves adventures on the high seas, drama, romance, danger and of course, the Gospel :) :) She also wrote another serie called the Charles Towne Belles series...about these four sisters in teh 1750s colonial South Carolina...and involves pirate ships, love drma, intrigue, the Gospel...Oh, the books are WONDERFUL!!!! I'm also reading Lauraine Snelling's series "Red River of the North"...about a family of Norwegian immigrants to North Dakota. Have a great week. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather

Hi Dorothy,

It was so fun to see that you're reading my book (Coffee, Cookies and Inspiration) and one of my favorite books (Hinds Feet on High Places) at the same time!

God used Hinds Feet to really change my heart when I was in college. I'd tried to read it a few times but couldn't get through it until that summer. As I followed "Much Afraid" on her journey it was as though I was taking all of those steps with her. God took me to new places of trusting Him, but also being willing to allow love in my life (rather than continuing to be so intentionally independent). I met my husband at the end of that summer; I think God used that book to help prepare me for a deeper relationship than I was open to before.

I hope you enjoy them both. You have a lovely site.

Blessings,

Mary Hampton
