Annie Johnson Flint

Please take a few minutes today to meet Annie Johnson Flint and I believe you will come away with fresh encouragement and blessing.

You may not recognize the name at first but I believe you will recognize her writing.

Annie Johnson Flint was born in 1866 and died in 1932.

Here are a couple of reference links:

But God
by Annie Johnson Flint

I know not, but God knows;
Oh, blessed rest from fear!
All my unfolding days
To Him are plain and clear.

Each anxious, puzzled “Why?”
From doubt or dread that grows,
Finds answer in this thought;
I know not, but He knows.

I cannot, but God can;
Oh, balm for all my care!
The burden that I drop
His hand will lift and bear,

Though eagle pinions tire —
I walk where once I ran —
This is my strength, to know
I cannot, but God can.

I see not, but God sees;
Oh, all-sufficient light!
My dark and hidden way
To Him is always bright.

My strained and peering eyes
May close in restful ease,
And I in peace may sleep;

I see not, but He sees.

This past week found me delightfully happy to put a big check mark on one of my heart desires.

I often have seen pictures on FaceBook of butterfly gardens or butterfly sanctuaries where the gentle delicate little fairies fly by the hundreds.  Being such a butterfly lover I wanted to experience being in their presence as I had seen in photos.

Along with some friends we went to the Arizona Botanical Gardens.  In my 45 years of residence in Arizona I must admit to never having been there.  I know, tsk tsk but it is true.  Amazing things in our own state.

On our walking tour we saw some butterflies in the part of the garden that was butterfly friendly.  BUT then we came around the corner to find a butterfly pavillion filled with my favorite creations in all their glory.  Oh, be still my heart.  Such a treat.  Such beauty.  Such a blessing to walk among the butterflies and enter their world.

See and feel the flutter of butterfly wings? Yes, seen it and done it -- thank You Jesus.

So next morning as I take Daisy outside for her morning ritual I find this:

Beautiful morning glories shining in the morning sunshine.

A couple butterflies were enjoying the cool morning too flitting among the lantana flowers but I couldn't snap my camera quickly enough to capture them.

I am reminded that you can travel many miles in search of beauty and inspiration but if you look closely you will find beauty and inspiration in your own home and your own backyard.

"It's All In The Presentation"

Image from November 1998 Victoria Magazine

If you know me very well you have heard this come off my lips quite often,
 "It is all in the presentation!"

I simple adore this delightful photo and all the delicate detail.  Sweet little chocolate covered shortbread laying not on a plate or saucer but on a lovely tatted hankie.

And the milk bottle!  I don't really drink milk, although I am a dairyman's daughter, but I simply love this milk bottle. Note the labeled lid.  😊

Put it all together and it is every bit delightful to the eye and to the senses.

Yes, it is definitely all in the presentation!

Monday Memo

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  Matthew 5:16

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. …
Luke 10"38-42

Do you know Annie Johnson Flint?  You may not recognize the name but more than likely you would recognize her writing.  She is a very prolific writer and I hope you will check out her many writings here:

With my last blog in mind concerning priorities I had to follow up today with Annie Johnson Flint's poem entitled Mary and Martha.

Martha was busy and hurried,
Serving the Friend divine,
Cleansing the cups and the platters,
Bringing the bread and the wine;
But Martha was careful and anxious
Fretted in thought and in word,
She had no time to be learning
While she was serving the Lord,
For Martha was "cumbered" with serving,
Martha was "troubled" with "things" -
Those that would pass with the using -
She was forgetting her wings.

But Mary was quiet and peaceful,
Learning to love and to live.
Mary was hearing His precepts,
Mary was letting Him give -
Give of the riches eternal,
Treasures of mind and of heart;
Learning the mind of the Master,
Choosing the better part.

Do we ever labor at serving
Till voices grow fretful and shrill,
Forgetting how to be loving,
Forgetting how to be still?
Do we strive for "things" in possession,
And toil for the perishing meat,
Neglecting the one thing needful -
Sitting at Jesus' feet?

Service is good when He asks it,
Labor is right in its place,
But there is one thing better -
Looking up into His face;
There is so much He would tell us,
Truths that are precious and deep;
This is the place where He wants us,
These are the things we can keep

As I grow older and wiser (smile) I am finding more and more the importance of my priorities.  I can get side tracked quicker than anyone I know.  I go to my (sanctuary) office to have my quiet time and next thing I know I am involved with a book or a project that is sitting nearby.

Good news is that I am learning.  Learning the simple but life changing fact that God wants to be first in all things.  I am not seeking perfection I am seeking to glorify God in all I do and say and this too ties into my quote from my previous post:
"When I focus not on performance or perfection but on joy, gratitude and service, everything seems to fall into place." --Sally Clarkson http://sallyclarkson.com/blog/

Add to that seeking to make time with our Lord priority everyday and truly everything does fall into place.  It is biblical and it is a promise from God's Word.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.  Matthew 6:33

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:41-42

Simple pops of color for you to enjoy today:

My African Violet that I purchased in Kentucky has finally decided to put forth its' royal display after several months of what? rest maybe?

The vivid color always amazes me.

Recently I added a Coleus to my windowsill and it seems to be thriving.  I have a few cuttings that are attempting to put out tiny roots.  Yay!

Pooh Bear is feeling chipper after receiving an overdue
new coat of paint thanks to my friend Nancy.

This beauty came as a bonus surprise from the birdseed
Precious Husband blesses all our birds with daily.

In spite of the Arizona heat our Lantana and Asparagus flourish giving us color all year long.

Adding to our color are the koi and gold fish swimming contentedly going deeper in the pond as the heat of the daily sun intensifies.  These guys just would not sit still for a picture

Make Today Lovely

We do have a free will.  We have a choice each day.

Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,
think on these things.
Philippians 4:8

I am choosing to make it a lovely day.  How about you?

Good Morning Sunshine!

Here is my question

When you rise from your bed
how long does it take till you truly shine?

Food for thought, right?

Rise and shine and give God the glory!

Maricopa, Arizona

From my reading this morning I want to share
 a line that ministered to my heart.
Mildred Stamm writes in Be Still and Know,
"My joy is not in the day but in the Lord, who made the day!"

Today I choose to praise the Lord and to trust the Lord for what He has in store.  He is the creator of heaven and earth and nothing will take place today that is too difficult for Him.  Through His loving hands will be sifted everything that touches my life today.  Such encouragement!  TYJ

This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24

I lift my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 1211-2
